Raising My Personal Standards to Take Better Care of Myself
I am on a quest to take really good care of myself. It will involve changing some of my old habits and starting new ones that will help me BE the person I really want to be. Most of the women in my family and a majority of my female friends are excellent at taking care of others first. The "gang" and I will give and give until we are angry and exhausted, and some medical ailment will send us to bed or a spa to get some rest.
I'm ready to break the cycle. Enough already!
I started a few months ago with something easy - washing my face and putting on nice lotion before bed. It seems so simple, but taking that extra 5-10 minutes is still a challenge for me. The next thing I added was a short yoga routine every morning. Two new habits that I'm still working to make as automatic as brushing my teeth every day. I can't wait for the day when I won't even think about it, I'll just wash my face automatically. Or I'll go straight to my yoga room when I open my eyes each morning.
It's time to kick it up a notch! I'm ready to raise my standards and make really big shifts in the way I take care of myself! I'm focusing on 3 new standards starting today:
- I enjoy pleasurable evenings at home.
- I love to move my body and it keeps me feeling young.
- I'm well rested.
The next step is to determine what I need to say NO or YES to in order to achieve these new standards. Strong boundaries around these new standards will be very important. I'll need to say NO to working late, NO to skipping yoga and NO to staying up late. And I'll say YES to having pleasurable things to do each evening, YES to 15 minutes of yoga and YES to my nightly ritual to prepare for sleep.
I'm excited about my new level of self care! I believe that self care is the strong foundation that is needed to build a super fantabulous life. If you have stories about successes or struggles around self care, please share them!

Hi,
During the process of opening your spine, hips and shoulders in backbending, some common negative emotions are fear, anxiety, sadness, claustrophobia, suffocation, and anger. Some common positive sensations are joy, happiness, trust, release, surrender, peace, heightened energy flow and true power. One of the first lessons along the spiritual path is that when you’re confronted with life’s greatest challenges, you must learn to stay where you are and not run away. Yoga Sutra 2.1 defines Tapas as accepting pain as help for purification. You only purify yourself when you stand directly in the fire and choose a new path over escapism, denial and running away. It’s a powerful choice to stay amidst the intense fear that pain in any of your joints evokes.

Hi,
In a speech to the Vancouver Board of Trade today, Canadian Medical Association President Dr. Brian Day launched mydoctor.ca Health Portal which features the first physician-driven Canadian electronic patient health record platform (PHR) as well as innovative online tools for tracking chronic diseases. This health portal further builds on the patient-physician relationship by directly and securely linking patients to their physicians.

Hi,
Did I get worse the more I practiced? Can that even happen? Sports coaches and music teachers will tell you that it can - if you practice doing it wrong instead of doing it right. If you repeatedly practice bad habits, they will become ingrained habits. Email and instant messaging may have taught people how to type better, but I don’t think it’s teaching them to write better.
