Coyotes in Carrollton

Father's Day morning, June 15, 2008.  My sweet, loving tabby cat Cleo went out after midnight and didn't come home for breakfast.  A week and a half later, Boo, my devoted, bumbling, black cat was gone the same way.

The day Boo disappeared I knew I had to take some kind of action, so I contacted a pet psychic who advertised that she was willing to look for lost pets.  I had never done that sort of thing before, but I needed some help and was willing to try anything.

The lady, Hillary, was very nice and tried to comfort me as she gave me the bad news:  Cleo had been near the cat door, next to a dark cat with a mouse (Boo).  And then she crossed over.  She was gone from my life and it was likely the same thing had happened to Boo.

I am starting to come out of the devastating sadness now.  The hardest times are when I come home from work and when I go to bed at night.  Boo would always run to meet the car, and would often jump into the car and climb all over until I made him get out.  Cleo was afraid of cars and any loud noises, so she would wait on the patio for me to go through the garage and around to the back door in the kitchen to let her in.  Cleo would often reach up to me with her front paws as if to say "pick me up" like some 2 year olds I've seen.  At night, one or both cats would snuggle up with me as I drifted off to sleep.

So I wrote this story and will leave it here on my blog for others to find if they have lost a pet in the north Carrollton suburb of Dallas.  Some people mention seeing a coyote on the walking path of the greenbelt.  I have never seen one, nor is there any trace of one around my house.  There are lots of lost pet signs in our neighborhood, another sign of a problem.  Friends from Plano tell me of similar problems and they have even seen the coyotes there.  It is said that they wait beside pet doors - like picking up food at a fast-food window.

There is less and less wilderness every day and wild animals may come into established neighborhoods for a midnight snack.  Love and enjoy your pets, and keep them in at night to be safe.
